Sputnik Shake: A Retro Rocket Fuel Treat

Spread the love

A nod to my father’s childhood – he was born the same day Sputnik launched! My own childhood dream was to be an astronaut, and this shake feels like the closest I’ll get to infinity and beyond.

Disclaimer: This recipe is best with whole milk for a rich, creamy texture. For a lighter version, substitute with your preferred milk alternative.

Base Ingredients

  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 1/2 cup milk (whole milk is recommended for the richest flavor)
  • 1/4 cup crushed Oreos (original or golden)

Tang Swirl Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Tang powdered drink mix
  • 2-3 tablespoons water

Garnish

  • Whipped cream
  • Silver sprinkles or edible glitter
  • Mini marshmallows (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the Swirl: In a small bowl, whisk together Tang powder and water until a smooth syrup forms. Adjust water amount for desired syrup thickness.
  2. Blast Off Blend: In a blender, combine ice cream, milk, and crushed Oreos. Blend until smooth.
  3. Assemble: Pour the base shake into a tall glass. Drizzle the Tang syrup over the top of the shake, then use a spoon or straw to gently swirl it in, creating a marbled effect.
  4. Retro Garnish: Top with a swirl of whipped cream, a sprinkle of silver sprinkles or edible glitter, and a few mini marshmallows for a “floating satellite” look.

Enjoy your blast from the past!
